Musical Festivals - Matatini - Bonus Activity

Hello Blogging world! For today's bonus activity we have to watch 3 videos from a every 2 year festival called "Te Matatini." These performances are pretty cool but we had to rank them our favourite #1 to least favourite #3 and say why we ranked them like that. Here is the rankings.

#1 Tamatea Arikinui

#2 Te Puku O Te Ika

#3 Iti Kahurangi

There was all the rankings. I ranked Tamatea Arikinui first because they were the only group that have danced and their harmonising is really good! The reason why I ranked Te Puku O Te Ika 2nd because their costumes were really pretty and they were doing the dance for their granddad. The last reason why I placed Iti Kahurangi 3rd is because most of the time they were just standing at one spot but their singing was still really good like the other ones.

From making this blog post I learnt what a Matatini means, it means this type of Maori festival. It was hard to choose which dance should be first, second and third. It was easy to add the video of the winning dance because I have already chosen the winning dance. I hope you have enjoyed this blog post and would like to see more! Please feel free to leave a comment to improve my work! Bye! Bye! Blogging world!

  1. Hola Amie,

I really like the way you explained your reasoning for you choice of rank for each group performance. It was all positive feedback, which is not only lovely but very respectful and mindful considering the fact that they are treasured cultural performances. Had you thought about why Te Itu Kahurangi stood in one place for the majority of their item? I wonder if it means something..

I would really love to attend Te Matatini one day, it reminds me of when I performed in Kapa Haka and the the cultural group when I was in school. Have you been a part of Kapa Haka or a cultural group before? If you haven’t, let me know if you’re interested and why or why not.

    Toe feiloa’i fo’i,

    Cia.

    1. Aloha Cia, it probably means it is a emotional and toucheful song. Did you enjoy being in your Kapa Haka group? I haven't done Kapa Haka before but our school has had a cultural day so I was able to be in Bollywood for a cultural group. Thank you for your comment!
