The Right to Vote - Activity 2

Hello Blogging world! Today's 2nd activity is about voting. At the turn of the century only men in New Zealand can vote for their government, but women was not allowed to according to the law. New Zealand's ever first government elected was Richard John Seddon. You might or might have not heard of him but no worries here is one fact about him, he was the president since 1893-1906, which was for 13 years! But law about women not allowed to vote change in the late 1800's, because of this hard working women named "Kate Sheppard." She bravely called for a change in the law, thanks to her now everyone can vote! Sadly there is still some countries that still cannot allow women to vote which is Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia only started to let women vote in 2015 and that was only 2 years ago!

I think that it is pretty sad that women weren't allowed to vote till 2015 because everyone should have their say. It isn't fair because that means you don't get to have everyone's opinion and they don't get to choose what is best for them.

I am really thankful that Kate Sheppard changed the law so that everyone can vote. From making this blog post I learnt that Saudi Arabia recently letting women to vote in 2015. It was hard to think that there is more than 1 law about being a man or a lady, like how women can't vote and women was not allowed to work in the old days. It was easy to write down why it isn't fair if you can't vote because everyone should have their opinion. I hope you have enjoyed this blog post! Please feel free to leave a comment. Bye! Bye! Blogging world!

  1. Hey Amie,

You sound extremely passionate about this topic granting woman the chance to vote. In New Zealand today, it is quite hard to comprehend the reason why woman weren't allowed to vote. Our country is now very inclusive and sees everyone as equal. I completely agree with you, no matter what gender, or job description everyone should have the right to vote. I am hoping Saudi Arabia is coming into a period of change regarding woman's rights as they recently allowed woman the right to drive.

I think Kate Sheppard is an incredible woman who lead the way to change woman's rights. If you were to lead the way to change something in this world what would it be?

    Blog you later,
    Megan

    1. Buenos dias Megan, Wow Saudi Arabia has lots of rules that they still have to get through. If I were to lead the way to change something I would change the environment so that animals don't die from the rubbish. Thanks for commenting.

  2. Hola Amie,

Wow, that is an awesome aspiration to have Amie. For christmas, I was brought a bracelet where 10% of the money paid for the bracelet went to an organisation that helps clean the ocean and save the animals.

I wonder whether you could sell something and give money to an organisation that saves animals. That would be a step in the right direction.

    Keep warm,
    Megan :)

    1. Aloha Megan, that is good that some of that money for the bracelet went to help the environment! You can maybe sell things non-plastic like tote bags and paper straws.
