Mixed-Member Proportional (MMP) - Day 3

Hello Blogging world! In 1996, New Zealand adopted the MMP voting system. In September 2017 we had a national election. Only people the age of 18 and over were able to vote, the vote was so close and in the end. 3 different political parties came together and made their own government. It was called a ‘coalition government’ because it includes different people from different political parties. For this activity we had to imagine that we were in a coalition government with 2 other people. We had to choose 2 other people and say why is that your decision? Here is mine.

I would form a coalition with my friend Lily and my other friend Ashana. I chose Lily because she is very smart and she knows a lot of digital and coding stuff, she also is very funny and talkative. I also chose Ashana because she is good at problem solving, she is very helpful and kind.

Do you like my reasons? Well, who would you choose tell me in the comments! I hope you have enjoyed this blog post and learnt more about voting if you would like to know more about the MMP voting system click here! Bye! Bye! Blogging world!

  1. Hey Amie,

It sounds like you would have a very strong coalition part between Lily, Ashana, and yourself. I like how you have thought about Lily's digital skills and Ashana's problem solving skills. These are definitely traits that politicians would look for when forming a MMP. What assets do you think you would bring to the coalition party?

If I was to form a coalition party I would definitely include my Dad as he follows politics very closely. He is always educating himself on the the current New Zealand parties and is very interested in the American politics. My second party, would be my friend Nicole. She has a very strong and stubborn personality which would be the perfect trait for a politician. She is a very educated person who loves being involved in politics. Do you think I have formed a strong coalition?

Have a great day today Amie,
    Megan

    1. Hello Megan, the assets that I think I will bring to the coalition party is my creativity and my writing. You dad must be very engaged with the politics! I defiantly think you have formed a strong coalition because your dad knows a lot about the MMP and your friend will be very funny and interactive.
